Last month, we challenged the students to an “Add-On Contest” here at TSPA Holland. An Add-On is any extra service not originally booked which is added during the appointment.
Each instructor has an assigned group of students called their “team”. We asked the winners of the contest and their instructors what they did to win and why they find it important to get familiar with add-ons.
Here’s what our Esthetics Instructor, Amanda, had to say:
Why do you think teaching students about how to run a promotion in a salon/spa is important?
I really believe that if you can learn as a student how to be comfortable communicating with clients about sales and promotions, you will be a step ahead before even beginning your career. The ability to create client retention and profitability by promoting beneficial services and products in addition to the core service is a huge part of ensuring future success once the students are licensed and working.
What coaching did you do that encouraged your team to give their best?
Senior esthetic students were [the ones] participating so they really know how to promote services and the benefits of doing so. Coaching is focused simply on reminding them of those benefits then working on verbiage and identifying opportunities, but mostly encouraging them and celebrating wins when their effort pays off.
