HOLLAND TWP.-It’s been 10 years since Scott and Rachel Harned opened Bombshell Salon and Spa in Holland Township.

It started with four hair stylists and has since grown to a team of more than 25, including five educators, at 2975 West Shore Drive. That’s because, when opening their business, the Harneds saw a need for schools that prepare stylists for their state boards.

The couple planted a seed that blossomed two years later, when Scott, Rachel and partner Nikol Taylor launched The Salon Professional Academy of Holland, which provides training for state boards, business building, financial stability, social media marketing and more.

As The Academy celebrates eight years, it’s doing so in style. It’s been named “School of the Year” by The Salon Professional Education Company.

Rachel said it’s been an honor serving the community, both with Bombshell and The Salon Professional Academy of Holland.

“Our mission is not only to prepare our students to pass state boards but to inspire them to be the very best in the salon and spa industry,” she said.

The award is based on the academy’s performance throughout the previous calendar year. According to Rachel, it’s based on metrics like “educational excellence, preparing students for success after licensing, community involvement, and exceeding (standards)/”

In total, the school has graduated 350 salon and spa professionals in eight years.
